Formerly known as the Ellice Islands, Tuvalu is a group of atolls lying south of the equator in the western Pacific Ocean, south of Kiribati and north of the Fiji Islands.

Tuvalu at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Tuvalu won a single bronze medal at Glasgow 2026, the first Commonwealth Games staged with a reduced program of just 10 sports, to finish in a tie for thirty-sixth on the medal table. For one of the smallest nations in the world, it was a landmark moment — the first Commonwealth Games medal in Tuvalu's history.

The medal came from boxer Tarona Taafaki in the women's 75kg category. The 20-year-old southpaw received a bye into the semi-finals of a five-strong division, and although she was beaten there by India's Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, the run to the last four was enough to guarantee her a place on the podium.
