Here is a list of the top 10 most popular sports, as originally defined by hunmoni on Google Knol (webpage is no longer available).
The author of this list noted that other sports such as athletics, shooting, swimming, chess, boxing and formula one are not ranked on this list as all are individual sports with plenty of superstars in their respective field and all have their own identity. They are all more popular as the individual rather than the sports.
