  • The Republic of Sierra Leone joined the Commonwealth in 1961.

  • Sierra Leone is Portuguese for 'Lion Mountain'.

  • It is bordered by Guinea, Liberia and the Atlantic ocean in Western Africa. See map of Sierra Leone.

  • Sierra Leone made it's debut in the Games in 1958 and took part again in 1966, 1970 and 1978 before returning in 1990 in Auckland from where they have taken part ever since.
