Most Popular Winter Olympic Sports in 2018
There are many ways to determine the popularity of sports, and online search traffic is one such method. We used Google Trends, analyzing the online searches for the sports of the Winter Olympics, using the period of the Olympics in February 2018.
Top 5 Most Popular Winter Olympics Sports (Feb 2018)
Here are the top-5 most popular searches for Winter Olympic sports during the PyeongChang Games in 2018. The most searched sport was ice hockey, with interest peaking with the men's final on the 25th of February. Previous analyses of Winter Olympic sports have shown many different sports being listed as the most popular, oftentimes it is ice hockey or figure skating. The graph below shows that earlier during the games figure skating was as popular as ice skating, but not during the ice hockey finals or overall.
