The national sports body in India is the Sports Authority of India (SAI). It has 9 Regional Centres which are located at Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Imphal, Guwahati, Bhopal, Lucknow and Sonepat. There are also two Academic institutions: Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports (NS NIS) in Patiala and Laxmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) in Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala).

Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports

The Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS) is located in Patiala India. It is Asia's largest Sports Institute. The NIS is housed in the Old Moti Bagh palace, and has facilities for many sports. There is also a National Institute of Sports Museum.

National Institute of Sports Science & Medicine

It was announced in 2011 that a National Institute of Sports Science & Medicine (NISSM) will be established at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to provide an international standard facility for sports medicine, covering the disciplines of Physiology, Psychology, Nutrition, Biochemistry, Biomedical, Anthropometry and Sports Medicine.It will be leading Institute in the country to support high performance sportspersons and integrate sports science and medicine into the training of elite sportspersons and into the teaching curriculum of sports coaching in the country. It will provide evaluation, assessment and performance related advice to sportspersons and take up high quality research in the field of sports sciences and sports medicine.

Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS)

The Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) is a new cutting-edge sporting facility based Vidyanagar, Karnataka. The IIS will cater to high potential young Indian athletes as well as international level athletes across five sports: Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, Swimming and Athletics, providing world class coaching and sports science services as well as world class training facilities.
