The World Abilitysport Guttmann Games is a multi-sport competition for athletes with disabilities. The Games will only feature sports and events not currently on the Paralympic Games program. The first Guttmann Games was planned for 2021 but was postponed due to the corona-virus pandemic.
The Guttman Games are a tribute to the legacy of Sir Ludwig Guttmann, the father of the Paralympic Movement and founder of the International Stoke Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation which later became IWAS.
The inaugural Guttman Games was scheduled for 10-12 October 2021, to be held in Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal. The sports on the program were beach paravolley and wheelchair cricket.
The first-ever Guttman Games were due to be held concurrently with the IWAS World Games, in a Festival of Sport at the self-contained Complexo Desportivo de Vila Real de Santo Antonio in Portugal. However, due to changes brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, both events were canceled.
The First Games in 2024
The first Guttman Games is now to be held from 10-14 July 2024 in the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement, Stoke Mandeville, Great Britain.
The Games will include the sports para-dancesport and powerchair hockey, and a demonstration of wheelchair cricket.
