Wheelchair Racing at the Olympics

At the 1984 Olympic Games wheelchair racing was first included on the the programme, as an exhibition sport showcasing the Paralympics event. The event was held during the multi-event competition. Wheelchair Racing continued to be included in the Olympic program until 2004.

At each Olympics where wheelchair racing was included, there were two track events, a 800 m race for women and a 1500 m race for men. Medals were not awarded, as the sport was not part of the official competition.
