Field Handball Demonstration in 1952

A men's field handball game was demonstrated at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. The exhibition match was played between teams from Denmark and Sweden, played by teams of eleven. The game was played on the evening of July 30th, and drew an attendance of 13,175. The players who gave the demonstration received the XV Olympiad Commemorative Medal.

Rain made the field and ball slippery, so that play did not reach the highest standard. Sweden won 19-11, after leading 8-5 at half-time.

Field Handball has been played at the Olympic Games only once before, in 1936 it was on the official program. The indoor team handball version of the sport has been included on the official program since 1972 (and since 1976 for women).
