Pan American Games for the Deaf

Not a lot of details are known about the Pan American Games for the Deaf. The Pan American athletes represent countries in North and South Americas. The events were organized by the Pan American Sports Organization of the Deaf / PanAmericano Deportes para Sortos (PANAMDES).



The first Pan American Deaf Games was held in 1975, in Maracaibo, Venezuela. There was a big gap before the next event, held in 1999 in Havana, Cuba. The third Pan-American games for the Deaf were originally planned for November 2002 in Santiago, Chile. It was then listed as being held in Buenos, Aires, Argentina, September 19-28, in 2003. There was an event in 2019 too.

Pan American Deaf Youth Games

The first Pan American Deaf Youth Games was held in Aguas calientes, Mexico in 2000. Two years later another event was held in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and the third in Montréal, Canada in 2004.

The 4th Pan American Games for Deaf Youth took place at Gallaudet University, Washington, DC, on August 1, 2006. The Games, for deaf and hard of hearing youths aged 10-15. 135 athletes from five different countries: Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, and the USA., competed in two sports: track and field, and basketball.

The 5th event was held in 2010, the location unknown.
