Asia Pacific Deaf Games

The Asia-Pacific Deaf Games developed from the Asia-Pacific Deaf Football Championships, first held in Taipei, Taiwan and known as the Far Eastern International Deaf Football Championships. The games were then known as the Asia Pacific Deaf Football Championships until 1992 when badminton was added to the program and the name changed to the Asia Pacific Games for the Deaf. The games changed its name to its present name, the Asia Pacific Deaf Games, when the games was held in Seoul, South Korea in 1992. The games have been held every four years since.



The fifth Asia Pacific Games for the Deaf were held in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia in 1996 and set a record for participation with 700 athletes in four sports.

The games scheduled to be held in Kuwait City in 2004 were canceled due to the war in Iraq. Originally awarded to Kuwait city, postponed to 2008 and then canceled. The games returned in 2012 and 2015, however, the 2019 games scheduled for Hong Kong was canceled due to the 2019–20 Hong Kong protests.
