Here are some of the sporting highlights in the world of sport for 1926. After two years of domination by the Italian rider Ottavio Bottecchia, Belgium was back on top at the Tour de France event with Lucien Buysse claiming the championship by a margin of well over an hour.

Golfer Bobby Jones who is currently tied at the seventh spot for the most number of majors, took the US Open and The Open Championship that year for his second and third major wins. He won both the events two more times each to finish his career with a total of seven major titles.

Walter Hagen won the PGA Championship for the fourth time and for the third consecutive year. It was his eighth major title. He went on to win three more majors in the next few years to finish his career with 11 major wins, an accomplishment only surpassed by two other men thus far.
