Academic Olympia

The Academic Olympia is possibly the first university sports event. It was a competition for university students held in the early 1900s.

It is reported that there were five "Academic Olympia" events from 1909 until 1913, all held in Germany (though the 1911 event was originally due to be held in Italy). However, the following illustrations are from the Illustrated London News from 1905, of Oxford's victory at the Academic Olympia, which suggests there may have been some events earlier than 1909.
