Ba Game

Ba game is a game played in Scotland. It is a version of medieval football; it is usually played around the Christmas season. Ba is just a term for village football.

In this game, two parts of the village need to get a ball to their side. The two teams are the uppies and the downies, the players should belong to a certain group depending on which town they were born or they hold allegiance with.

The ball in Ba game must be manhandled. The game is played all throughout the town; it can go through the streets, the yards, and some alleyways. When the townspeople decide to play Ba game, the shops and houses protect their windows to prevent damages.

There are variations depending on which town Ba game is played. In Jedburgh, the play starts in the center of the town. In Scone, the play starts at two in the afternoon until sunset. Ba game is also played in Kirkwall, Roxburgh, and Duns.
