On April 25 1914, the first monarch to attend The FA Cup Final was King George V. It was the first time that the reigning monarch had attended a Cup Final and presented the trophy to the winners. Burnley beat Liverpool. This was the last Cup Final to be held at Crystal Place.

In the world of boxing, the world lightweight title was given to Freddie Welsh for his win over Willie Ritchie from San Francisco after 20 rounds. This match was held in London on July 7.

Due to the onset of the first World War, the 1914 America’s Cup was canceled.
