Here is a video of a 40″ (102 cm) vertical jump by Frank Yang in January 2007. It looks very impressive, and hard to imagine other athletes getting up around 50 inches, which some recrods show.

This example of the Vertical Jump fitness test using the Vertec apparatus is of freshman J. Kelley (6’6″, 222lbs) from the University of Maine, doing a 38″ Vertical Jump. Turn your head (or the computer!) as the person taking this video was not aware that it is not easy to rotate a video on screen.

Here is a video of a vertical jump using the Vertec Apparatus, with a three step run-up approach. Using such a run up technique is only relevant for specific sports that require a similar jumping action like volleyball and basketball.
