Roque

Roque is an American variation of croquet, which is played on a hard, smooth surface. The name "roque" was created by removing the initial "c" and final "t" from "croquet". The rules of roque are very similar to those of croquet.

The game was at its peak of popularity in the first quarter of the 20th century. It is played on a hard sand or clay court (dimensitons 30 by 60 foot), surrounded by a boundary wall. The balls are hit with mallets, can be bounced off the walls during play. There are ten arches in seven points configured in a figure-8 formation, permanently anchored in the court.
