Unusual Sports
New Sports
Have you invented a new sport? You have to start somewhere. If you have an idea for a sport, or something that you play with your friends that you think may take off, let me know and I will put up any information you can supply.
Inventing Sports
Here are some ideas for those who are considering inventing a new sport. Get a cool name that makes people want to play it. Make sure no one else is using that name for a sport and that you can register the name. Once it gains popularity you will have a great marketing opportunity with uniforms and equipment and associated products. You want everyone to play it your way, write down the rules and standardize things such as ball and court sizes. Register a website, start spreading the word (make sure it is listed here!), get lots of people to play it. If it really is as good as you think, you need to be ready as it takes off.
Omniball
Here is a newly invented sport by Imogen and Christian Robson. This is what they had to say about it:
"We have just invented a new sport called 'omniball'. Everyone who has played it with us now plays it at home so we're pretty sure it will catch on. There are two teams of 4-7 people and you start with the ball in the middle of the court then a whistle goes and you run to get it. You then have to get the other end of the court with the ball using anything (hands, feet, passing, wrestling...). You can't punch, kick, spit, bite, pinch or tickle. The only way you can score is by kicking it in and there is no goalie (only rush goalies - anyone on the team). You then just carry on playing instead of starting from the beginning once you've scored and you can carry on scoring again and again until the other team stops you. For our games we used an smallish exercise ball so you basically need to use any ball that is about 70cm long and is soft so you can grab it and bounce people off it."
Pickle
I recieved this from Josh. "I was hoping you could put a sport called Pickle on your site. You may have heard of it. I didn't personnaly create it, but I know who did. It's similar to volleyball. The goal is the same as volleyball; to get the other person out, except in this game, whoever is closest to the ball when it hits the ground gets eliminated. Also, You play it over a soccer goal net instead. Instead of whacking it back and forth, you throw it and catch it."
Mini Indoor Soccer (M.I. Soccer)
from john echeverry (Jan 2012): Me and my cousin have invented a new sport called (M.I.) soccer. It stands for mini indoor soccer. The idea is that you get a spongy ball big enough so that if you have any couches or low-lying seats the ball doesn't go through but big enough so that it doesn't break everything it hits. Here are the rules. Hope you enjoy the game. :)
- No hitting, biting, pinching, or knocking over.
- When cornered you must not use your hands to hang on to anything (except when your falling and only to the floor)
- Can be played with any doors, entrances,or archways in the house.
- When starting the ball goes to whoever gets the heads when flipping a coin of any type.
- When your feet, torso, or head cannot touch the ball you may use your hands but has to be thrown in after picked up.
- Its soccer, so, no hands (remember the ONE exception though).
- Using the environment for your advantage is fair and highly recommended (GET CREATIVE).
- More of a two player game but can be played with many depending on house size.
