Synchronized Swimming
History
Synchronized swimming was popularized in the 1920s. After being a demonstration sport in the 1952, 1956 and 1968 Olympics (more about Olympic demonstration sports), it made it's competition debut in the first world championships, held in Belgrade in 1973. It became an official Olympic event in the 1984 Los Angles Games.
Trivia
- The best team in the world, the Russian synchronized swimming team has topped the medal table at the past four world championships (at 2007).
