Comments:

The following are a selection of comments from voters in the poll.

The winners of this poll were race car drivers, although some heated debate was raised in the comments. Some equally strong arguments for each side of the question were presented. A selection of the comments from voters on the poll are listed below.

  • It seems very unlikely to me that racers are at all more fit than astronauts. What is that guy referring to. They are the cream of very fit AF pilots
  • I think golfers are realizing that they have more to gain by increasing their physical capacity.
  • I think that pulling positive g's over 70 or more laps (not including testing, practice etc.) is far more demanding than a round of golf
  • Racing drivers have proven to be fitter than astronauts so even thinking of comparing them to golfers is ridiculous in my opinion!
  • you have to have strong arms to control a race car so it doesn't crash into the wall!!!
  • It has to be racing car drivers for the physical demands each race has. Dehydration and experience of several G's of force are good examples.
  • In a recent study open wheeled race car drivers were subject to vo2max and EKG, as speed increased so did physical response hr up to 180
  • I'll bet a golfer can't go flying through the air at a rate of knots and get up to wave to the fans.
  • I believe that racing takes up a lot more concentration.
  • Racing cars need 100% fitness or else don't gamble with your life.
  • Racing car drivers require a lot of concentration and generally have very low heart rates, indicating high fitness level
  • racing car drivers are working against G-force making it twice as demanding for them 7/6/00 6:23:18
  • to be a racing car driver you have to be veerrrryyy fit look at Michael schumacher
  • racers face high heat conditions and must operate under stiff acceleration
  • Racing car drivers without a doubt
  • Craig Stadler vs Jeff Gordon ? That's a no brainer.
  • I think that racing car drivers because most of the golfers are fat and rich selfish #@&$ witts
  • you have to be kidding me right? How can a game of golf be as taxing as an F1 race where they are subject to 3 or 4 g
  • "Well.... I also know how hard it is to play a round of 18 holes in a day... but as a non elite golfer... I carry my own bag!"
  • Race drivers are under experience extreme conditions ... intense concentration, heat,G forces ... its one long isometric exercise
  • I'll be #@&$ed if golf is a fitness inducing game. Bunch of nonces swinging their clubs...
  • golfers are fat
  • f1 guys sustain g, while there reaction time is as fast as the golf ball goes, think about this if there was a golf player who had to race would he?
  • golfers are skillful , while f1 guys are that but with their life at stake.
