Beach Woodball

Beach woodball is a variation of Woodball, played on sand and using a mallet to hit the ball to pass through a gate.

The mallet is a kind of hammer that is made of wood or rubber. It is T-shaped. The handle is long and the head resembles the bottle of coke or beer.  The ball is 9.5 centimeters in diameter and is made of natural wood. The gate is made of two bottles pinned to the ground connected by a horizontal pole in which there is wooden cup hanged.

This wooden cup turns upside down when the ball passes through it. When that happens the player was able to gate successfully. The term every successful gating is “fairway”. The overall score depends on the number of fairways and strokes.

During competitions, there are men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and team competitions with 4 to 6 players. There are also different classifications of competitions. In the “Stroke Competition”, the team or player who reached the required fairways with the lowest number of strokes shall be the winner. On the other hand, in the “Fairway Competition”, the team or player who has the highest number of fairways with the lowest strokes shall be the winner.

This sport originated in Taiwan and is included in the Asian Beach Games.
