Unicycle Hockey

Unicycle hockey is a sport that is very similar to roller or inline hockey, though played while riding a unicycle. There are no known records as to when or where the first unicycle hockey game was played, however, in the film Variete (1925), this sport was shown.

A unicycle hockey team consists of five players, and substitutes, however some clubs have no goalkeepers. Substitutes are allowed any time, and it is not necessary to indicate this to the referee. A unicycle hockey court is between 35 to 45 meters in length, and 20 to 25 meters wide. It can either have bevelled or rounder corners. This sport can be played indoors or outdoors.

Any sticks legal for ice hockey, except for the ones the goalkeeper uses, can be used in unicycle hockey. A tennis ball or a street hockey ball can be used. The governing body for this sport is the International Unicycling Federation. In the UK, Germany, and Switzerland, there are registered unicycle hockey leagues.
