Rogaining

Rogaining is a sport that involves cross-country navigation over long distances. It also involves route planning using different types of maps between checkpoints. Rogaining was developed in the 1940’s in Australia. Some elements of rogaining were developed by the Melbourne University Mountaineering Club.

The word ROGAINE was formed and was derived by the three founders: ROd Phillips, GAIl Davis, and NEil Phillips.

This sport is played by two teams with five members each. They have to reach a certain number of checkpoint in a specific period of time. Each checkpoint corresponds to a certain score, teams may develop a strategy, for example, visit the checkpoints with the highest scores first.
