Obstacle Course Racing (OCR)

Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) is an event requiring an athlete to run through a variety of different obstacles.

The race is designed to cause an athlete to mentally and physically collapse. The course includes obstacles such as crawling under barbed wire, running through a series of hanging stun guns, carrying heavy objects, climbing over walls, and many more.

There are many races all with varying degrees of obstacles. Some of the most popular Obstacle Course Races includes the following American Events Rugged Maniac, Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Warrior Dash; this African Event, Jeep Warrior Race; and these European events Tough Guy, Bog Commander, Legion Run.

These races were inspired by military training methods meant to test endurance as well as physical and mental limits of athletes. The first race was designed in 1987 by Tough Guy.

Obstacle Course Racing has seen significant growth and participation over the past few years. In 2011, over 1 million people registered in these events throughout the United States. These obstacle races are governed by the International Obstacle Sports Federation.

Interested Fact: Obstacle Course Racing has become the popular choice amongst college students across the United States.
