Kayaking

Kayaking is a racing sport using a kayak for moving across water, which is a small, narrow boat propelled by means of a double-bladed paddle. It is different from canoeing by the sitting position of the paddler. Most of the kayaks used have closed decks. Kayaking is more commonly a recreational activity than a competitive one.

Kayaking is can be done one flat stretches of water, as well as in whitewater, in playspot (standing waves) and rapids. There are artificial whitewater courses made for kayaking.

Some kayaking competitions that exists now are the freestyle kayaking world championships, and the extreme kayaking competition.

Other types of competitive kayaking are: slalom racing, river racing, freestyle kayaking, and Olympic kayaking. Kayaking has been part of the Summer Olympics since the 1936 games in Berlin.
