MCG - The Home of AFL

What

The MCG - Melbourne Cricket Ground - is popularly known as the 'G'. It is the home of the Melbourne Cricket Club, and also to some Australian Rules Football teams in the winter season.

Where

The ground is located close to the center of Melbourne city, a pleasant 15 minute walk from the main Flinders Street train station.

History

The AFL grand final is played here each year on the last weekend in September. The MCG also hosted the first ever Test Match, between England and Australia in 1877. The MCG was also the main stadium at the 1956 Olympic Games and the main stadium at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The MCG light towers use 720,000 kW of electricity each year - enough to power 153 homes.
