The Zentralstadion is located in Leipzig. This stadium, completed in 2003 at a cost of €90.6 million, replaced a communist-era stadium that held 100,000 people. In fact, the old stadium was so big that the new stadium was built completely inside the old one.
The capacity of the new ground is 38,898 and the population of the city 490,000. It is situated west of the city, and within walking distance of the city.
This stadium was one of the 12 stadiums of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
