Calcium for Health

What is Calcium used for?

Calcium is an important mineral used for building and maintaining strong bones. It is also present in a dissolved form in the blood and fluid outside cells, to help conduct electrical impulses such as nerve messages.

What foods contain calcium?

Dairy foods are the richest source of calcium. Most people will get their daily allowance of calcium with three serves of dairy per day. For example, a serve of calcium is one cup of milk, a small tub of yogurt or a couple of slices of cheese. Calcium is also found in nuts, legumes and Asian green vegetables, though in these sources it is not as well absorbed as in dairy products.
