Water Polo

  • Water Polo is an extremely fierce, competitive and tiring game. It is played over four, eight minute periods.

  • Seven players from each team are in the pool at any one time, though each team is made up of 13 players and regular substitutions are common.

  • Men's water polo was held at the inaugural World Swimming Championships in Belgrade.

  • Women’s water polo was included in the FINA World Championships for the first time in Madrid 1986, with Australia winning the gold medal.
