Australian Open

Australian Open Tennis CourtThe Australian Open Tennis tournament is held in Melbourne, Australia. It is one of the Grand Slam tournaments of Tennis. Currently, the tournament is held at the Rod Laver Arena in January each year.

For the 2008 event, a new court surface has been laid down, changing from the Synpave Rebound Ace, a hardcourt surface composed of polyurethane and synthetic rubber that has been used for the last few years, to courts made from plexicushion (see more about court surfaces). The court color has also changed from green to blue. The new courts are believed to be faster than previous, but they would still be slower than the court surfaces used at Wimbledon and the US Open. The new surface would also be more durable under heat stress.

The Australian Open is played in the middle of summer time, so often hot days are forecast for this event. The Australian Open Heat Policy may have to come into effect.
