2012 Torch Relay
The torch relay will begin at Land's End on May 19th 2012, arriving at the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony on 27 July. The torch relay will cross the country for 70 days, covering 8000 miles with an equal number of carriers. The starting point, Land's End, is the most south westerly point of the country. From there the torch will travel throughout the UK, including the islands of the Outer Hebrides north of Scotland, before arriving in London for the start of the Games.
Although the name of the final torchbearer is being kept secret, the favorite to complete the last leg is five-times gold medal-winning rower Sir Steve Redgrave.
