Serbia at the Olympics
Serbia has had a long history at the Olympic Games. Two athletes from Serbia competed at the 1912 Summer Olympics. It was another 96 years before athletes competed at the Olympic Games under the Serbian banner, in 1988. In the meantime, athletes from this region represented Yugoslavia, then later as part of Serbia and Montenegro. Serbia declared independence from Montenegro in 2006.
At the 1992 Summer Olympics Serbian athletes participated as Independent Olympic Participants, as their nation was under United Nations sanctions.
In 2008, Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia, though they have not been accepted into the IOC and have not participated the an Olympic Games.
