Benin at the Olympics

Benin has been in the Olympics since 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia. They also participated in the 1972 Summer Games in Munich, Germany by sending three athletes, competing as Dahomey.

Runner Ibrahima Idrissou and boxers Meriga Salou Seriki and Leopold Agbazo represented Dahomey, the former name of Benin. None of them advanced. Benin passed on the 1976 Montreal, Canada Summer Games. They came back in 1980 under their new name Benin. In 1980, they also sent eighteen athletes, the highest athlete count that represented the country since and ever. From that point on, Benin has never missed a single Summer Games. They however are yet to win an Olympic medal.

As with most African countries, Benin has never been to the Winter Games.
