Belize at the Olympics

Belize’s National Olympic Committee was formed in 1967 and they first showed up in the Olympics in the 1968 Summer Games which was held in Mexico City, Mexico. However, they were not known as Belize in the 1968 Summer Games. They were referred to as British Honduras. This was also the case in the 1972 Summer Games when they sent a single athlete, shooter Owen Phillips, to Munich, West Germany.

Since then, Belize has participated in almost all of the Summer Games. The only time that they were not in the Summer Games is when they joined the US-led 1980 Summer Games boycott which was held in Moscow, Russia. Despite their almost perfect attendance to the Summer Games, Olympic honor still eludes Belize.

As with many Central American countries, Belize has never competed in the Winter Games.
