The Islamic Republic of Pakistan joined the Commonwealth in 1947 and re-entered it again in 1989 after leaving the fold in 1972.

Pakistan made its debut in the 1954 Games (6 medals) and was an ever present up to and including the 1970 Games in Edinburgh (9 medals).
