Nauru

Trivia

  • Nauru has been a member of the Commonwealth since 1968.

  • It is a small oval shaped western Pacific island, which covers no more than 22 sq kms. See map of Nauru.

  • Nauru began its Commonwealth Games campaign at the 1990 Games held in Auckland, winning 1 gold and 2 silver medals in the weightlifting. More weightlifting medals followed again in successive Games, partly due to the elite weightlifting centre in Nauru which came into being in 1994. Manchester in 2002 saw Nauru pick up 15 medals in weightlifting, a truly remarkable feat for such a small country.
