  • Ghana, a West African nation, lies on the Gulf of Guinea and is surrounded by the Ivory Coast, Burkino Faso and Togo.  See map of Ghana.

  • The Republic of Ghana was formerly known as the Gold Coast.

  • Ghana became a member of the Commonwealth in 1957.

  • Ghana have been a regular force in the Commonwealth Games since 1954, missing only the 1986 Games in Edinburgh.

  • Only at their debut Games in 1954 and at the 1982 event in Brisbane have they failed to win any medals.

  • At the 1966 Games in Jamacia, Ghana had their biggest haul of medals with five golds.
